Most of the things you guys mention I do, in fact, appreciate you for. but what percentage of your gross national product is consumed by your "real" medicare? It's socialism! There's a reason that US medical facilities near our common border do such good business - when Canadians want REAL medical care, they come to the US. How many residents of the USA go to Canada when they need to have a thorn removed from their foot?

As a citizen of the US, he is entitled to a jury trial.
If we can find fourteen (12 + 2 alternates) citizens who feel they wouldn't mind having themselves, their spouse or children murdered by a terrorist, he could even go free. Allah-hu-fuckin'-Akbar!
Military tribunals are for non-citizens suspected of being enemy agents, and are entirely appropriate for that purpose.
SaintSatan - I just called Dan Rather, and he told me I was most definately NOT brainwashed. I don't even wash behind my ears!
But seriously, SS - what constitutes "brainwashing"? Is education brainwashing? Is religious conversion brainwashing? Does your local jeep dealer brainwash you before he sells you a new car? Does the guy at the 7-11 brainwash you into buying two chili cheesedog gut-bombs? What are our own thoughts?
My point, I think - let me check with Dan Rather - is that the term "brainwashing" originally had a specific meaning, and that meaning has been broadened to the point where it means nothing. Soon all words will mean the same thing, y'know?
Does each person have to invent the wheel for themselves to avoid the stigma of being "brainwashed"?
I wonder how the psychiatrist's patients behave AFTER the good doctor has 'de-hypnotized" them. How are they different? Well, their wallets are now MUCH lighter...

A person could argue that we're ALL "brainwashed."
(I wouldn't agree with that, but the argument could be made.)Nevertheless, we are responsible for our decisions and our actions.
What if (ha ha) the Talian/Al Qaeda had kicked US ass? He would be dancing with his Muslim "brothers" in celebration.
What if he wasn't simply injured and captured, but died in his holy war?
He made his choice. He can dance at the end of a rope on his way to his magnificent Lord Allah.
SaintSatan - I would think that travelling to Afghanistan for the purpose of fighting with Al Qaeda is pretty much 'doing the crime" in this case. He wasn't exactly selling magazines from door-to-door when he was apprehended.
